The standard jaws on the Generation 3 vise will accommodate blades up to 3/16 of an inch without any protective wrapping. So how do you handle blades that are thicker?

Now available is the Generation 3 Jaw set for 1/4" blades that fits the Generation 3 Vise and will allow it to open wide enough to insert and clamp a knife as thick as 0.31 inches.

This is an attachment that replaces the standard jaws on the Generation 3 vise when you need to clamp those thicker blades. This attachment will fit the Generation 3 Professional Model Sharpener, the Field and Sport Professional Sharpener or the WE130 Sharpener - basically any system with the Generation 3 vise standard or as an upgrade. It fits the 2016 versions as well as the 2017 versions.

Please note the jaws will not clamp knives thinner than 3/16" when this attachment is installed - you have to switch back to the original jaws for those blades.

Changing out the jaws is simple. To remove the existing jaws you need to first remove the 2 pins holding in the current jaw set. You can do this with the depth key or a punch or something similar. Pop the pins loose (it doesn't take much force) then squeeze the jaws together and pull/push the pins the rest of the way out. When you have the pins removed lift out the jaws and take off the spring between the two jaws...Be sure not to loose those pins or the spring. Put the spring between the new jaw set and slide them into the vise lining up the holes so the pins can be slipped back in. Be sure the pins are fully inserted and then you are ready to go back to sharpening those thicker blades.
